Renting vs Buying
I have lived most of my life renting. In fact, I have rented 15 homes in my life and while I hate moving, I also know that since I have done so many times, I know I can handle it. I have moved 4 times in the last 5 years. Moved to my first home last year and now my second on this year. I plan to move again in early 2025 to my next home. Owning a home has given me a sense of security in knowing that I own an asset that is in short supply in an appreciation market. Sure, my monthly bill is a bit higher than for renting but by only a few hundred dollars and total monthly payments actually came down after I bought my second home.
Metro Atlanta continues to grow and most people will agree that prices of homes will continue to rise in the next 5-10 years, as well as the rent. The sooner you purchase a home, the more money you will save over time. The average net worth of a homeowner is $250k while the average net worth of a renter is $6k. If you don't own your own home, chances are, you're paying someone else's mortgage.
Can you afford to purchase a home? Not everyone can buy a home now, but first, you don’t know until you consult with a professional. Even if you can’t buy a home now, it helps to have a plan to purchase. If you don’t, a year later you may regret it.
